The Challenge
As part of the district heating network expansion in Hildesheim, EVI Energieversorgung Hildesheim faced the task of crossing Senator-Braun-Allee—a busy federal road. From the early planning stages, additional stakeholders were involved to leverage synergies. It quickly became clear: the existing DN 400 grey cast iron (GG) drinking water transport pipeline was in urgent need of rehabilitation due to age. Replacing the aging transport line under high-traffic conditions and limited working space demanded a robust and flexible solution.
The Solution
The decision was made in favor of a modern polyethylene (PE) solution using d450 PE100. For a safe and durable connection, FRIAGRIP flange adapters and FRIALEN safety fittings and connection technology from FRIATEC were used. These products have proven their reliability and quality over many years in the field. A key success factor: the Aliaxis team provided hands-on training to EVI staff on handling large-diameter pipes—ensuring smooth and confident execution.
The Realisation
The approximately 90-meter-long pipeline was installed by EVI’s in-house team. Prior to installation, Aliaxis conducted a practical seminar to prepare the team for working with large-diameter PE pipes. Material logistics were handled via the local distributor network.
“Before the planning phase, we involved other stakeholders to assess whether additional utility lines should cross the federal road. Due to its age, we decided to replace the DN 450 GG water transport pipeline with a new d450 PE pipeline. Our team received practical and clear training from Aliaxis on how to safely handle large-diameter pipes.”

The Conclusion
This project clearly demonstrates how early coordination, high-quality products, and targeted training can enable complex infrastructure measures to be implemented efficiently and sustainably. The combination of technical expertise and hands-on support positions Aliaxis as a trusted guide for the future of municipal water infrastructure.
