Under the theme “The World of Plastic Pipes”, the event once again brought together leading industry experts to discuss current developments, innovations, and practical solutions. A particular highlight was the presentation by Dr. Stefan Griesheimer, Product Manager at Aliaxis, who addressed one of the most pressing issues of our time – the future of Germany’s energy supply.

In his talk titled “Is Hydrogen Coming or Are We Witnessing a Renaissance of Natural Gas?”, Dr. Griesheimer explored the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition. Based on current data and forecasts, he illustrated how Germany’s energy demand is evolving, the contribution renewable energies are already making, and why hydrogen, as both an energy storage medium and carrier, is poised to play a central role in future infrastructure.

A key focus was the practical use of hydrogen in existing gas networks. Using the example of the “Hydrogen Island” pilot project in Öhringen – where Aliaxis supplies key components – it became clear that existing infrastructure can be adapted for hydrogen transport with targeted modifications. This opens enormous potential for a sustainable energy supply without the need to completely replace current systems.
